E-mail - Nov. 8, 2009 - By Phil Green Date: Sun, 08 Nov 2009 19:02:38 -0500 Special Bulletin—Cancel The Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. Greetings. For the last couple of years of I have sent you greetings and local news at long weekends. I am making an exception now because of the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry. I urge you to sign my petition to cancel The Mississauga Judicial Inquiry on-line here. You can also find it on my web site here. The goal is to convince enough councillors to change their minds and vote to cancel the inquiry. This inquiry is a low point in our city’s history. The allegations are minor, and no Member of Council, including the Mayor, is alleged to have personally benefited. The inquiry will poison the atmosphere at City Hall. City staff, instead of serving you, the residents and rate payers of Mississauga, will be distracted serving lawyers. The inquiry is initially budgeted at $2.5 million and is a colossal waste of tax payers’ money. But it could easily balloon into a much higher figure. There are much simpler, less expensive and more appropriate ways to address allegations of misconduct by members of Council. Now is the time for us to look forward, to build our city, to build and repair our infrastructure, to attract business and investment, to protect our air and water, and especially to keep expenses and taxes down during these challenging economic times. Instead, with this inquiry, City Hall will become a mud fest. I have started the petition with the backing of Councillors Pat Mullin (Ward 2), Maja Prentice (Ward 3) and Katie Mahoney (Ward 8). Councillor Pat Saito (Ward 9) voted against the inquiry but I have been unable to reach her this weekend. The text of the petition is below. Regards, Phil P.S. Please forward this email to your friends and contacts. Sign on-line here To Members of Council of the Corporation of the City of Mississauga We, the undersigned petitioners, request Council to cancel immediately the Judicial Inquiry into alleged conflicts of interest regarding land purchases in the City Centre and Her Worship Mayor Hazel McCallion.
